Gwen Tauiliili-Langkilde brings more than 25 years of legal experience and a deep commitment to public service in American Samoa to the role of Attorney General of the Territory of American Samoa. Prior to that role, she served as an Acting Associate Justice on the High Court of American Samoa, where she presided over cases in the Family, Drug, and Alcohol Court and the Appellate Division. Her work also extended to assisting with matters in the Trial and Land and Titles divisions, reflecting her wide-ranging expertise and dedication to justice in her community.
Gwen began her judicial career in 2015 as a pro tempore District Court Judge and was appointed as a permanent District Court Judge in 2021. In this role, she has overseen misdemeanor and infraction cases, preliminary hearings in felony matters, small claims, and limited civil disputes.
Before joining the bench, Gwen practiced law privately for several years. She founded her own law firm in 2014 and later co-founded MTL Law in 2018. Her private practice work was broad and community-focused, representing individuals, families, and businesses in areas such as land, contract, employment, personal injury, family, and election law.
Her commitment to public service also runs deep. Earlier in her career, Gwen served as Assistant Attorney General for the American Samoa Government, where she represented the government in a variety of civil cases. She later held legal counsel roles at the American Samoa Power Authority, Telecommunications Authority, and Election Office, offering guidance on everything from federal compliance to administrative hearings. She also worked as a Special Assistant to the Governor, drafting legislation and representing the territory in key policy discussions.
Early in Gwen’s legal journey, she clerked at The High Court of American Samoa, which laid the foundation for her lifelong dedication to justice. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Hawai‘i’s William S. Richardson School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, graduating with distinction.
Active in the legal community, Gwen has been a long-time member of the American Samoa Bar Association and previously served in leadership roles with the ASBA, including as its president, and contributed to the legal profession through her service on the Bar Association’s Admissions Committee.
